GSA taps LiquidSpace to power federal workplace transformation pilot.

March 24, 2025

LiquidSpace, the leading on-demand office marketplace, and workplace management platform, has been selected by the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) to lead a federal pilot aimed at transforming how agencies book, share, and manage workspace.

The federal government is the nation’s largest owner and occupier of office space, managing more than 370 million square feet across the U.S. and six territories and serving over one million federal workers. It is one of the most complex, costly, and consistently underutilized office portfolios in the world.

Through the Enterprise-Wide Marketplace pilot, LiquidSpace will help federal agencies unlock underutilized space, enable interagency sharing, and provide access to vetted commercial workspaces—advancing GSA’s goals to cut costs, optimize space, and support a more efficient federal workforce.

"This is a pivotal moment for the federal government and a groundbreaking step in the evolution of workplace strategy," said Mark Gilbreath, CEO of LiquidSpace. "By embracing agility, data-driven insights, and an on-demand approach to workspace management, GSA is leading a revolution that will unlock unprecedented efficiency and cost savings."

Key outcomes LiquidSpace will deliver for federal agencies:

  • Efficiency Gains – Reducing underutilized real estate through dynamic scheduling and access to shared workspace.
  • Data-Driven Optimization – AI-powered insights to help right-size agency footprints.
  • Interagency Space Sharing – Seamless cross-agency access to federal and commercial workspace.
  • Cost Reductions – Minimizing excess space and reducing overhead.
  • Coworking Space - On-demand coworking space seamlessly integrated within one marketplace experience.

Integration with Space Match.

The pilot supports the spirit of GSA’s Space Match initiative—connecting agencies with unused space to those in need, in pursuit of higher utilization and cost efficiency as encouraged by OMB and Congress. Through this collaboration, agencies can easily discover, book, and manage shared workspaces across the federal footprint—reducing waste and avoiding unnecessary buildouts. It’s a step toward realizing the vision behind Space Match—and one that leverages the scale-tested capabilities of platforms like LiquidSpace.

Introducing FedWorkplace.

At the core of the pilot is FedWorkplace, LiquidSpace’s secure, on-demand platform that enables agencies to find, book, and manage workspace—within government facilities or through trusted commercial partners.

Driving the intelligence behind FedWorkplace is Portfolio Manager AI, developed in collaboration with Trebellar. This AI-powered engine equips agencies with:

  • Real-time analytics on space utilization
  • Predictive modeling and scenario planning
  • AI-driven recommendations to reduce waste and align space supply with real demand

Together, FedWorkplace and Portfolio Manager AI offer a unified solution for workspace access and portfolio optimization.

“This isn’t just a government strategy—it’s a mirror of the real estate and workplace strategy that is rapidly spreading across the private sector,” added Gilbreath. “When the largest occupier of office space in America decides to rethink how it works—it’s no longer a trend. It’s a turning point.

As workplace strategy continues to evolve, LiquidSpace invites forward-thinking government and enterprise leaders to explore what’s possible when office space becomes more dynamic, data-driven, and responsive to today’s workforce.

“The transformation is already underway,” said Gilbreath. “Together with GSA and our partners, we’re laying the foundation for a smarter, more agile workplace future.”
