We've been kept on our toes
Running a coworking space during a global pandemic has really kept us on our toes. Each week seems to bring a new shift in safety best practices. Early on we implemented contact tracing and temperature taking, upgraded our air filtration and added 30 new cleaning protocols to keep members safe. We designed the space for flexibility, to best support various workstyles (private offices, meeting rooms, phone booths, open drop-in spaces), and that has continued to be valuable to members throughout the pandemic.
Keeping our community and staff members safe
Once the vaccines rolled out we faced a conundrum—do we require vaccines? Is that unfair to those who can’t get vaccinated? Or is it unfair to members if we don’t do everything to keep them as safe as we possibly can? Members helped make the decision for us. A cohort requested and leaned hard on us to require vaccination, and convinced us by making the point that more people can benefit from the space if everyone feels safe. We were also able to move to a mask-optional workspace for 5 magical weeks. Remember those?
With the Delta variant and the associated breakthrough and transmission of vaccinated folks, we are back to being masked as well as being a fully vaccinated space and developed an app to let folks upload their vax cards for verification. This means we can continue to ensure the safety of our team but also our members, to be able to focus on their work.
Our community is stronger and continues to thrive
People are back in the space, Gina from Make it Mariko told us, “We’ve shifted from in-person events to virtual, but we still need a physical space to run all the rooms from, and Trellis made that possible.” Matt from Pilot shared, “I was able to take 87 zoom meetings in one week to raise my seed round. I couldn’t have done that from home.” Spaces like Trellis are critical
Though a far cry from the utilization pre-pandemic, we are seeing steady growth. We’ve seen a surge in day office bookings, a new offering we added during the pandemic to increase flexibility, and a jump in virtual memberships for companies that need a San Francisco address but don’t need or aren’t ready for the physical space. The market is growing rapidly as more corporations embrace a hybrid office strategy to retain talent, increase productivity, and reduce real estate costs.
This is the future according to Bloomberg, and we are excited to be a part of it!
